Team members are added as collaborators to your Team Site. On paid plans, team members require paid seats. Guests, on the other hand, are invited to particular documents, but are not added to your team. All documents in Grist, including those on personal sites, are allowed up to 2 free guests, and do not affect the plan price.

Whether you give someone access as a team member or a guest, you have full flexibility in determining their level of access to your data.

If you are on a free plan, upgrade to a paid plan. Self-hosting Enterprise customers can contact us for technical advice regarding limits.

A self-hosted (or self-managed) deployment lets you run Grist on your own servers, e.g. on-premise or in your private cloud. It is available for Enterprise plans. Self-hosting gives you control over security, compliance, monitoring, compute power, network access, authentication, and more.

Grist also has an open-source Community edition, which can be self-hosted for free and is perfect for individuals and small technical teams. For larger organizations, the Enterprise edition includes advanced auditing and admin features and support for your IT team.

You can also host Grist with minimal setup on VPS and open-source self-hosting marketplaces such as AWS, Azure, Unraid, and Yunohost.

A Personal Site is an area for your personal documents, and is automatically and freely available for any Grist account at docs.getgrist.com. That’s also where you will find personal documents shared with you by others.

Team Sites are meant for regular collaboration by groups. They store documents at a subdomain of your choice such as your-team.getgrist.com. A team site may be on the free plan, and you may upgrade a team site to any of the paid plans.

Access rules address complex collaboration needs. Grist gives you far more control than deciding who a document is shared with. You can create detailed rules about who can see or edit individual tables, columns, and records.

For example, you may maintain sensitive HR data, and give each employee read access to a part of just their record. That allows Grist to function as an internal application, and removes the hassle and the risk in juggling multiple documents in order to share or collect data.

Yes! We offer professional services on the Business and Enterprise plans, both directly and via a network of Grist consultants who work closely with us. Yes. On the Enterprise plan, Grist Labs deploys and fully manages Grist on a dedicated server in a region of your choice. This gives you all the customization options of a self-managed installation, but leaves the devops and maintenance to us. Contact us to learn more.

Non- and not-for-profit organizations are eligible for a 50% discount on the Pro plan. Sign up for the Pro team plan, and email us a Letter of Determination for your organization at support@getgrist.com at least a week before your free trial ends. If you are interested in a discount on the Business plan, please contact us.

We build Grist to be useful and widely used. That’s why our core is open-source and freely licensed. Grist Enterprise adds features mostly needed by large organizations, but some of these are valuable for smaller teams or organizations with limited budgets. For them, we offer Grist Enterprise Lite for free.

For clarity, any organization whose total finances are less than USD $1,000,000 may run Enterprise Lite at no cost. “Total Finances” is defined as the greater of (a) gross annual revenue, (b) total annual operating budget, or (c) funds raised in the preceding 12 months. The free use comes with community support only (Community Forum, Discord), like the Grist Community Edition (grist-core).

In addition, any organization, regardless of size, may use Grist Enterprise for a 30-day trial period, and may request a free license for up to 6 months for the purpose of evaluating or testing Grist.

Organizations above the $1M threshold require a paid Enterprise or Enterprise Lite license, which comes with a full commercial relationship and options for hosting and professional services. If you are a consultant or contractor, eligibility is determined by your customer’s organization. Also: if you’re a consultant, get it touch and become an official partner!
